Biography

Les Dupont is a French electronic music group formed in Nice in 1994. The group is considered to be one of the founders of the IDM genre in France (intelligent dance music). Over the course of 23 studio albums and many live tours (Technotravel, Electronic Paris Week, IRCAM Live with artists like Laurent Garnier, Sven Väth, Carl Cox, Daft Punk, Jackson and his Computer Band etc.), they are known for theatrical, industrial-themed live performances and videos.

A sonic retrospective celebrating 30 years of French electro innovation

Paris, April 2025 — To mark their 30th anniversary, pioneering French electro-industrial duo Les Dupont release 30 Electronic Pictures, a landmark compilation album capturing three decades of musical exploration. Comprising 30 tracks, the album unfolds like a sonic photo album, each piece a snapshot of memory, irony, and stylistic transformation.

The journey begins with DesignForDreaming, opening with a Godard-inspired slogan:

“Give us television and a car, and deliver us from freedom” —
An ironic statement that encapsulates the duo’s critical and postmodern approach to art and society.

Among the highlights is Looking Through, which reached #1 on Finland’s iTunes Dance Chart in 2018 and #11 in France, underlining the international resonance of their work. The compilation also features two previously unreleased tracks, Stars and Aguirre IV, revealing new facets of the duo’s evolving sound.

The album plays like a cinematic reel of the 1990s underground, evoking the vibrant scenes of Paris’ Boy and Le Palace, and reflecting their early years with Omnisonus / Polygram. Their debut album Miracle features the voice of Anna Karina, whispering:

“We live in the oblivion of our metamorphoses…” —
A poetic and haunting phrase that encapsulates the group’s enduring artistic philosophy.

The electro/industrial duo Les Dupont return with Aguirre IV, a bold and uncompromising single that veers away from their more familiar sonic landscapes to explore a rawer, more untamed territory.

In this striking composition, machines seem to spiral out of control in a furious improvisation, unleashing an electroclash energy of roaring synths and hypnotic, spiraling motifs. At its core, the voice of Klaus Kinski pierces through, proclaiming “Ich bin der Zorn Gottes” (“I am the wrath of God”), injecting the track with a dramatic and mythical intensity. What follows is unexpected: the chaos gives way to a contemplative ambient passage — intimate and futuristic — evoking Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes and the iconic music of Popol Vuh. The result is a powerful contrast between sonic violence and serenity, capturing the evolving essence of Les Dupont’s artistic journey.
