Biography

Les Dupont is a French electronic music group formed in Nice in 1994. The group is considered to be one of the founders of the IDM genre in France (intelligent dance music). Over the course of 23 studio albums and many live tours (Technotravel, Electronic Paris Week, IRCAM Live with artists like Laurent Garnier, Sven Väth, Carl Cox, Daft Punk, Jackson and his Computer Band etc.), they are known for theatrical, industrial-themed live performances and videos.

Discover the latest musical opus from Les Dupont: Sacred Spirits, their tenth remix album, marks a milestone in their artistic journey. Following Transmission The Best Of, The Best Of Remixes, 13 REmixed, Reflections, Dark Sides, Looking Through: B Sides and Bonuses, Rainbow Mixes, Screwing Up Some Remixes Vol I & II (feat. Jean-Luc Verna), Les Dupont continue to explore new horizons with this innovative remix album.

This opus features a selection of remixes of titles from the Sacred Songs album, as well as previously unreleased tracks, but what makes this album so special is the collaboration with the baroque vocal ensemble Beata Musica, which brings a very special dimension to this fusion of genres.

Didier Blasco-Giavitto shares his enthusiasm for this project, declaring: “The idea for this remix album stems from the desire to open new doors and create a privileged link between electronic music listeners and a certain ‘mystical’ inspiration. There are no limits to these remixes; they offer a new perspective and invite listeners to explore my sound universe in a different way. These remixes are a new way of expression, adding a touch of freshness to the Sacred Songs album while revealing its danceable potential.”

Sacred Spirits promises a musical experience in which the haunting harmonies of baroque chant blend with the rhythms of electronica, to create a sound universe that is both timeless and avant-garde.

Mammagamma

Originally released in 2018 on the Looking Through B Sides & Bonuses album, the band’s most streamed track, Mammagamma, deserved a solo release. This track is a cover of the Alan Parsons Project classic, one of the first tracks to be performed entirely by computer, using a Fairlight and LinnDrum drum machine, innovative technologies for the time (1982).

Here, the Duponts offer a rearrangement that brings bass lines to the fore, infusing the track with electro-house energy while retaining a dark, mystical atmosphere. This contrast with the original lends a new dimension to the track. Anecdotally, Los Angeles Times critic Patrick Goldstein described Mammagamma as “a hypnotic instrumental that makes you want to take a bath in the neighbor’s hot tub”.
